How to get started writing a children’s book
Have you always wanted to write children’s books? Catherine (Kasia) Heaslip and her sister Elizabeth Long recently came up with a unique way to teach children the alphabet while sharing their personal love of gemology — a beginning book for future rock hounds and geologists. They came to Soul Sonshine to make their dream a reality. On February 6, it happened –ABC A Book of Crystals was born. On February 8, it achieved #1 best new release status.
Don’t let perfectionism or fear stop you from achieving your dream.
The Meriam Webster dictionary describes perfectionism as: a disposition to regard anything short of perfection as unacceptable, especially the setting of unrealistically demanding goals accompanied by a disposition to regard failure to achieve them as unacceptable and a sign of personal worthlessness.
I think everyone would agree that the perfectionism described here is not good. It’s unhealthy and would lead to a life filled with depression.
But there’s a more realistic form of “perfectionism” — I would call it “striving to do better.”
I understand that well — striving to get A’s in school, striving to be a better role model for my children, and striving to write the best book I could write.
Striving to write the best book led me to writing, publishing and rewriting my first book— a memoir — three times in three years. Now I have a book that I’m proud of and, in the process, I learned quite a lot about writing memoirs and also how difficult and time-consuming self-publishing can be.
I am an INFJ in the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). My personality type wants to help others achieve their dreams.
INFJs also have a strong compassionate streak and can feel the pain and frustration that others experience. That’s why I created Soul Sonshine — to help people achieve their dreams of publishing their book.
No matter where you — if you’ve ever thought of writing a book, if you’ve NEVER thought of writing a book — I would like to encourage you to think seriously about it. Do you have expertise in business or raising chickens or providing spiritual guidance? Your book could help someone. Do you already write stories, poems, or articles? You could expand your influence by expanding your shorter pieces into a book.
