The question, “Why are you here?” can be interpreted in several different ways —
Why were you born?
Why are you living where you live?
Why are you reading this article?
I will answer the last question first and the first question last. The middle question I will leave to you.
I feel compelled to talk about why you were born because it’s an important question. You must believe so, too, or have some curiosity about it, and that’s why you’re reading this article.
Now back to the first question: Why were you born? Before I answer that, I’d like to narrow the question to this: Why were you born at this particular time in history?
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that you’re here right now. If you’ve believed, felt or thought the world is in a different “place” today than it’s ever been, you’re right. This time in history — in fact every moment of history — is a moment that will never be repeated.
And you can make an impact on history — your moment in history — by understanding this:
You were born to BE MORE.
BE MORE — but be more…what?
Be more of what the world needs.
In 1965, a popular song titled “What the World Needs Now,” said the answer was “love.” The 1960s was a tumultuous decade, and there were many conflicts and disagreements. Our world is still suffering from conflicts and disagreements, and we do need love.
But the world needs something else from us during this era in history that cannot be overstated —
RESISTANCE TO EVIL
Good vs. evil is a common theme in creative works because it reflects life. And it’s in the Bible, too, of course.
Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and having done everything, to stand.
– Ephesians 6:13*
But how do we recognize evil so we can resist it?
The devil… is a liar and the father of lies. – John 8:45*
If you know the truth and what you read or hear doesn’t match the truth, it’s a lie. Lies originate from the “father of lies.”
The good man brings good things out of the good treasure of his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil treasure of his heart. For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. – Luke 6:45*
People in our world today often resist the idea of evil rather than resisting evil itself. Some promote the idea that the devil and evil are outdated concepts or just metaphors.
We all need to identify that idea for what it is: another lie and a tool used by the “father of lies” to disguise itself.
Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in your faith and in the knowledge that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. – 1 Peter 5:8–9*
That verse pops into my mind on a daily basis, especially whenever I happen to catch the news. We are living in an era that requires us to be more — be more sober; be more alert. Evil is searching for people who can be tricked into believing lies.
Don’t fall for it.
When you hear a lie, understand that it’s coming from an evil entity that wants you to just go along with it. That’s all. Evil just wants you to do nothing. Evil doesn’t want you to resist or even stop and think about it. Evil doesn’t want you to speak up about it or defend others who are defending the truth. And most of all, evil doesn’t want YOU to defend the truth.
But the Bible says, “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” – James 4:7*
We were born to be here at this moment in time to resist evil and lift up truth.
It’s your choice. But keep in mind, it will be the most important choice of your life.
BE MORE… faithful to the truth.
“The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit” –
1 Peter 4:7 NASB
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” – John 14:6*
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:32*
I learned an important lesson through experience about resisting evil and standing up for the truth, which I describe in my book Wheels of Injustice: Saving My Child from the Child Savers.
