The Narrow Road

If a magic potion could make someone fall in love with you, would you use it? If someone didn’t freely choose to love you, is it still love?

Crows, on nearly empty roads,
incautiously accept the chance
that they’ll be luckier than those
who rashly dropped their vigilance.

Remains of those unfortunates
— a feast from crows’ perspective —
Is food for hungry scavengers
whose methods are effective.

This efficient clean-up crew
that nature wisely put in place
ensures the ecosystem
is a balanced, tidy space.

Humans, on the other hand,
are not so uniform.
Some will walk as Jesus did,
but others won’t conform.

Free will freely given will
cause some to love and sacrifice.
This, the narrow road will lead
to entrance to the afterlife.

Others choose a selfish path
— the one so wide and broad —
that leads to only misery
forever without God.

We can choose to let God’s transforming love soak into our hearts or we can ignore Him.

In writing to the Galatians, Peter said: “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” —Galatians 5:13 NLT
